Welcoming APIE's new patron: Jean Paul Samputu

June 12, 2015

We are delighted to welcome world renowned musician Jean Paul Samputu as our new Patron. A Rwandan singer, songwriter, musician and cultural ambassador, Jean Paul has become one of the most prominent African artists on the world stage. We are honoured that he has agreed to support and raise awareness of the work we do to improve the quality of education through our partnership with Umubano Primary School in Rwanda.

As a survivor of the genocide, building a positive future for Rwanda is something Jean Paul is passionate about – and education is at the heart of that. We work to equip children with skills to think critically, solve problems and thrive in a connected digital world and we give teachers the opportunity to gain practical experience and intensive in-service training so they can inspire the next generation. As a powerful voice for peace, reconciliation and rebuilding around the world, Jean Paul’s understanding of the role of an inspired generation will be invaluable to our work.

Jean Paul played a special role at our recent UK launch event where he sang a powerful and soulful song about the importance of children and their role in building a productive and peaceful future for the Rwanda. We have no doubt that Jean Paul will continue to bring his passion and soulful tones to APIE. But most importantly, his background and experience means he really understands the importance of education in building a peaceful and productive future. Welcome, Jean Paul.
