10k for 10k

Project Officer Charlotte Fraser is running the British 10k on 12 July 2015 to raise money for our Scholarship Fund which supports 30 children to go to school in Rwanda. We need to raise £10,000 in total to ensure these children are not left outside the school gates – and are given the chance for a healthy, independent and thriving future.

In partnership with local authorities, APIE has identified 30 children who live within 30 minutes walk of Umubano Primary School who are not going to school. Umubano Primary School is situated on the outskirts of the rapidly developing capital city of Rwanda, Kigali. It is an area of growth and development – but it is also an area of poverty where many families struggle to afford food, let alone an education. The reasons are complex and diverse but receiving a quality education will help these children learn skills to build a better life in the future.

Charlotte told us: “APIE also has plans to work with local partners on the ground to help families and single mothers learn new skills in order to become self-sufficient - something I am truly passionate about. It is a partnership that is local, sustainable and makes a real difference to lives.

My target is to raise £360 – the cost of sending a child to Umubano Primary School for one year. All donations go directly to Umubano Primary School to support 30 children to receive a quality education.”

Getting involved in an event is a fantastic way to challenge yourself, as well as raising money for a great cause. We are just glad that it will not be as hot in London that day as it is in Rwanda!
