Our Vision

At APIE, we believe in holistic education. Reading, writing and active investigation into the world around us open the gateway to knowledge and information and provide the tools for individuals to take positive steps in their own personal development.

We aim to create stimulating learning environments that will encourage children to stretch their imaginations and realise their full potential. We want to build safe places for both boys and girls to play that cater for their holistic well-being and addresses their own diverse needs and backgrounds.

Through exposure to an international language at an early age, we hope to broaden children’s horizons by offering them access to a wide range of opportunities. Also, with plans for adult evening classes, we want to promote and improve education across the whole community, in particular amongst men and women who missed their schooling during the genocide.

A standard Rwandan classroomImproving the physical infrastructure is vital to the success of schools in Rwanda, but at APIE we aim to provide much more for our partner schools. Working with local management teams, we offer a complete review of school funding and finances, management and recruitment, and even the educational structure. We want to help our schools perfect a model for primary education that can sustain itself long after our initial involvement.

This sustainability is at the heart of APIE's philosophy. We believe that quality education is the right of every child and so we work with schools to develop a fiscal model that will secure financial stability to pay teachers fair and competitive wages, that will continue to improve schools' material resources and will still provide a free education to at least 20% of students, who would not otherwise be able to gain access to an equivalent education.

Donor support is essential in setting up the basic framework for our schools. While we work towards self-sustainability, this process can take several years, as schools develop their own organisational strategies and improve their educational standards to the level of a competitive primary school. In the meantime, infrastructure, recruitment, learning resources, and many other expenses must be addressed to get each project moving. Your support goes directly to meet these costs.
